«Digital tools such as email and WhatsApp have now entered the doctors' bag. This was stated by a research by the Digital Innovation in Health Observatory of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano presented this morning, according to which the 85% of the General Practitioners and the 81% of the specialist doctors use the email to send communications to patients, while WhatsApp is used by the former 64% and the latter's 57%. The digitization of doctors, the experts emphasize, does not yet correspond to that of patients. Less than one in five citizens uses email or WhatsApp to communicate with their doctor, only the 23% books a specialist visit online and as soon as the 19% makes the payment on the web. Although limited, citizens' access to digital services has significantly increased in the last year (in 2018 the 11% booked online and the 7% paid using the Internet) and in the 35-44 age group it records high values (45% and 27%).
"In the event that citizens cannot turn to a doctor to receive advice on prevention and lifestyles based on data collected - says Emanuele Lettieri, Scientific Director of the Digital Innovation Observatory in Health -, a coach could play a fundamental role virtual reality able to proactively provide, and on the basis of the scientific evidence available, advice on how to improve one's behavior based on the monitored parameters, such as nutrition and workouts "."
